My headcanon for how Frisk and Chara show love
Frisk is one who wears their heart on their sleeve. You’ll know how much they care when you feel their embrace, get a little smooch on the cheek and cuddles. They’re someone you don’t ever have to really ask, you just know, it shows trough every action and heard in every word. Told in their eyes, and the bright smile they wear. They’re very affectionate and kindhearted, and like to surprise people with little gifts, of anything they can do to make the other person smile.
Chara is trickier. You have to each them closely. They won’t necessarily say it every chance they get, and sometimes it may seem like they never loved you to begin with. But here’s a couple easy signs: They open up to you ( Even a little! Through their own accord, not just anger. ) it is a huge sign of trust that they don’t give just anyone. They pick on you jokingly, not to be a jerk. Little smiles, and a chuckle now and then. They show it more through their actions than their words. If you mention something you really wanted, you can expect it to show up on their doorstep as soon as they can get it. If they ask about your favorite kinds of deserts or treats, they just so might show up with it at some point. They’re not the best at verbally showing it, but they’re learning to show it in other ways, so the people that really care can tell.
(Worst time but here)

so I guess I was thinking about this a lot
Bear with me, this might get wordy and/or weird. Okay, so there’s this meta aspect to Undertale where the player, rather than being Frisk or Chara, represent an independent external force. Throwing the final vote in Kill vs Spare and shoving determination everywhere. Like, when you go to do a True Reset after the Magic Rainbow Friendship ending, Flowey asks you not to. YOU, not Frisk. Also the whole ‘Did you think YOU were in control’ thing where Chara turns on the player (Frisk seems to be completely out of the picture by this point) Also stuff like the timeline nonsense only seemed to start once Flowey entered the picture, so presumably just Chara and another human wouldn’t be Determined enough to Save? and I guess I was just thinking about it in relation to fanworks and the like. Everyone kinda writes around it because it’s hard to convey an abstract meta-force controlling the characters in something that isn’t interactive? Or. Something? (Also probably because it’s a weird idea that’s kinda unnecessary to the basic story of, ultimately, three sad kids in the shadow of Mount Ebott. Which is fair.) But then I realized that there IS an influence separate from the characters (not counting y’know, the person running the blog) and more to the point, it’s a pervasive, volatile force. It’s them! The anons! There’s a constant influx of grey-faced asks encouraging Flowey (or riling him up), telling Chara that everyone hates them anyway (or teaching them forgiveness), or giving Frisk Determination (or getting them to pick up the knife one more time). Heck, you just put up a poll (Smooch that flower-ghost!) So I guess the Player lives on as all of us, and it turns out a whoooole bunch of us are jerks. Except when the anons pulled Gaster out of the void for a while. That was nice of them. I’m going to be honest I am not entirely sure where I’m going with this I just thought it was neat that you’ve kinda replicated the player influence in a non-video game context. PS I think this is a cool askblog, though that may be obvious by this point.

it’s true! the ‘player’ was you all along. Not Frisk, Not Chara, YOU. All your inputs resulting in our output.

egging Frisk to kill, encouraging Chara to fight, giving me Determination…playing with us like it’s some sort of ‘game’…

well said.
my fashion choice is 99% sweaters and I’m okay with that
it’s rude 🙂
What a Mess I Leave
((made the Chara playlist! I might do sans next))
Gaster: Sans look at this cool trick!
Gaster: *clips through the wall*
Gaster: watch this imma to do a flip
Gaster: *falls into the void*
((Chara then spends a week trying to figure out what the heck is emotions))
